Etna, Ca-
Martin Brothers Isaac and Matthew from Etna California
joined the sport of karting about three years ago with
an itch for adrenaline. The boys started training at
their home track Southern Oregon Karters based in
Medford, OR. The town of Etna is just 80 miles from
Medford, with the second closest Karting facility in
Shasta Ca, 122 miles from the boy’s hometown. 2011 was
the first year for the boys to travel the touring
Championship of the IKF Region 11 Elite series . Their
home track of Medford was involved in a three track
series which included Shasta and Reno Nv. With the
conclusion of the IKF series, both Isaac and Matthew are
looking to expand their competition to the Central
valley and compete in the Gold Rush series gaining
experience and racing with Norcal’s best racing
competition.
Overall,
traveling for Martin Brothers Racing is about 2600 miles
for the IKF Series and about 3000 miles for any of the
Gold Rush Series tracks in the Central Valley (Atwater,
Monterey, Stockton, Dixon, Davis and Sacramento). Both
Isaac and Matthew have learned the important essentials
of kart racing building confidence, responsibility and
patience. The boys have grown to become great racers who
go above and beyond performing as good drivers. Both
drivers pick up trash at every track they attend and run
water to track workers. They always have a smile no
matter how the day turns out.
11
year-old Matthew, is the youngest brother with only two
years of racing in karting and drives the No. 55 Top
Kart Mini Magnum machine. Matthew competed in the Jr 1-2
Cycle division and captured runner up in the IKF Elite
Jr 1-2 Cycle championship Points and currently sits
third in points at his club. In 2010, Matthew finished
fourth in the championship at Southern Oregon kart club.
“Matthew is a real people person and he loves to meet
new karters” says Jay Martin, father of both Isaac and
Matthew. In addition to racing, Matthew loves spending
time outdoors performing activities like hunting,
fishing, camping, target shooting and swimming. Matthew
has completed a hunting safety course this past year and
is excited to start hunting. Along with all of his
outdoor talent, Matthew has a great singing voice and
has been known to sing the National Anthem at the
opening ceremonies for some of his own races.
12
year-old Isaac Martin with only three years of karting
experience, has seen success each year , driver the No.
18 Top Kart Flash. In 2009 Isaac finished third in the
championship at his club with five main event wins. 2010
The Top Kart driver improved more by finishing runner up
in the club championship with an additional five main
event wins. Isaac captured the IKF Region 11 Elite Jr
Super Sportsman Championship and currently sits second
in the Jr Sportsman points at Southern Oregon Kart Club.
In addition to the love of racing, Isaac is an
enthusiastic outdoorsman as well. Isaac loves to fish,
hike, camp and even ties his own flies for fishing.
Isaac is quite the young entrepreneur with his own
business in selling handmade fishing flies and spinning
lures.
Martin
Brothers Racing just finished racing their biggest race
the IKF 2 Cycle Grand Nationals at Cal-Speed, Fontana
gaining valuable racing experience. Next event for the
team is the Norcal Gold Rush held at Stockton Kart Club,
September 4th. As the only karters from the
Siskiyou County, they continue to thrive and become
great competitors. The drivers will shift into 2012
gearing up for the new Norcal WKA series, and continue
with attending their home track Southern Oregon Kart
Club. Martin Brothers Racing would like to thank their
current Sponsors and Partners, without them the boys
wouldn’t have been able to travel to other Northern
California series: Siskiyou Aviation, Martin’s
Experienced Items Etcetera, Talbots Toyland, Etna
Brewing Company for Old Fashioned Root beer, JB Mining
Co, Brian and Carletta Martin and RMG Race Media Group.
